Gomphocarpus Cottonbush (8 plugs)

8 Plugs Shipped in a Mini Greenhouse

Late Spring (warm soil) - plant after all threat of frost has passed.

Grow this one if you want to make your friends giggle. Also known as “Hairy Balls” or “Balloon Plant” for the less adventurous. Gomphocarpus physocarpus is actually a species of milkweed and can be a host plant for monarch butterflies. It will always be the hot topic of conversation in your garden or flower field. Stalks produce clusters of star-shaped blooms in early summer which give way to large green pods that can be used in arrangements and floral installations in late summer and autumn. Vase life is best when the additional foliage is removed, just note that as with all milkweed, Gomphocarpus does ooze a milky sap when cut. These are large plants, easily reaching 6 feet or higher in a single season, so give them lots of room - however extra support is not required. Can be grown as an annual across the USA, and a tender perennial in the south.
